The Director of Technical Leadership is accountable for leading the development of IntraHealth’s technical leadership strategies and expanding the organization’s technical innovations and expertise. S/he will play a key role in ensuring the technical quality of programs as well as shaping the future direction of the organization’s core technical competencies, technical agenda and portfolio. The Director will assume responsibility and accountability in three priority areas: expanding IntraHealth technical approaches based on evidence, expertise, innovation and project experience; building technical capacity in headquarters and in field offices; and, providing ongoing technical assistance and services to projects to achieve excellence.
In this strategic role, s/he will lead a team of fifteen technical advisors, managers, team leaders and senior team leaders in training innovations and provider performance, workforce policy, planning and management, performance and quality improvement, clinical services strengthening, health informatics, and gender. The technical team is responsible for technical innovation, assistance and support to projects, building technical capacity of IntraHealth staff, especially at field level, and expansion of the organization’s technical strategies and profile in existing and new programs. They provide assistance in three key program areas: human resources for health and systems strengthening (HRH/SS); maternal, newborn and child health and family planning (MNCH/FP); and HIV/AIDS.
The Director of Technical Services works collaboratively with Directors and other senior staff in headquarters and the field to ensure technical quality and excellence throughout the organization. S/he reports to the Vice President of Programs and serves as a member of Senior Management.
Specific responsibilities include:
Experience and requirements include an advanced degree in a relevant field; 12 or more years’ experience with an organization providing technical assistance in international health or development; four or more years’ residential experience in a developing country; nursing, midwifery or medical certification and experience is highly desirable; minimum six years of experience in senior technical leadership position in one or more of the following areas: training and education, workforce planning and management, clinical services improvements, and/or health systems strengthening; strong track record in leading, managing and supervising (as well as participating as a member of) complex and successful teams that delivered results; ability to articulate the mission of IntraHealth and inspire others to contribute to its realization, including confidence navigating through an evolving, expanding and dynamic organization; entrepreneurial by nature with the propensity to be forward thinking as it relates to business development opportunities; management and supervisory skills and experience that will be required to recruit, hire, lead, develop, retain and inspire staff, using a consultative and participatory approach to deliver results; excellent written and oral communication skills, in addition to the experience and competencies required to manage multiple priorities while delivering quality work; a diplomatic style and disposition, a supportive leadership and supervisory approach and the ability to forge relationships at all levels internally and externally to the organization; also possess strong business acumen along with the ability to conceptualize, analyze, and synthesize lessons learned.
